Physical Therapy Staff

Linda Stremel
Linda Stremel
    Linda Stremel was born in Chico, CA and grew up on the family almond farm. She graduated from the University of California of Davis majoring in Biological Science and from Physical Therapy school at Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles in 1973.
    She has worked as a physical therapist in Siskiyou County since 1976. Her work experience has included: Siskiyou General Hospital and Mercy Hospital in Mt. Shasta, consulting for Siskiyou County Special Education Department in the Elementary schools, teaching childbirth classes, working as a pediatric physical therapist treating childern with cerebral palsy, and providing home health physical therapy. Linda has been with Mt. Shasta Physical Therapy since 1985 and is now the sole owner of the practice.
    Linda's areas of expertise in physical therapy are the shoulder and spine, chronic pain, and the aquatic weight loss program developed at MSPT called New U. Shw has a passion for participation in year-round outdoor recreational sports in the Mt. Shasta area.

Jennifer Pentrack
Jennifer Pentrack
    Jennifer Pentrack grew up in Redding, CA. She attended Enterprise High School and Shasta College before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Oregon in Eugene in 1979. She was awarded a Master of Science degree in physical therapy in 1983 from Boston University in Massachusetts.
    Upon completing her education, she returned to California, working in the Chico and Davis areas as a physical therapist before settling in Mt. Shasta in 1989. Southern Siskiyou County provides a rich environment for Jennifer to continue her career while also enjoying other favorite pursuits including running, skiing, hiking and gardening.
    Jennifer has been with Mt. Shasta Physical Therapy since 1990 and has extensive experience in outpatient physical therapy care. Her areas of special interest include hand therapy, aquatic physical therapy, fibromyalgia and osteoporosis treatment, foot and ankle rehabilitation, and custom shoe orthotic fabrication.

Sandy Orwig
Sandy Skiff
    Sandy Skiff was raised in Upstate New York on her family’s apple farm. After high school she moved to Salt Lake City to pursue an education in athletic training at the University of Utah. From there she transferred to the University of Puget Sound where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in physical therapy in 1989. After graduation, she moved to Mt. Shasta where she went to work for Mercy Medical Center. In 1994 she left the hospital and was deeply honored to come to work at Mt. Shasta Physical Therapy.
    Sandy’s career path has allowed her to combine her love of recreation and competitive sports with her desire to help others maximize their potential. She is a certified National Alpine Ski Coach, has coached at a private ski academy and been head coach/program director for the Mt. Shasta Ski team. She works as assistant instructor for courses taught to Physical Therapists: “Current Concepts in Knee Rehabilitation” and “Advanced Concepts in Knee Rehabilitation, Treating the Complex Knee”. In addition to the treatment of problem knees her area of expertise include spines, shoulders, ergonomics and manual therapy.

Megan Stremel Bainbridge

    Megan Stremel Bainbridge moved to Mt. Shasta in 1981. She graduated from Mt. Shasta High School in 1992, attended College of the Siskiyous, and then transferred to University of California in Davis where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise physiology with a Minor in Psychology in 1997. She then attended Samuel Merritt College in Oakland and was awarded a Masters degree in physical therapy in February of 2002.
    Megan has been with Mt. Shasta Physical Therapy since April 2002. Her main career focus has been in outpatient orthopedic therapy, but she also has experience in neurologic rehabilitation.
    When Megan isn’t working she enjoys spending time with her husband, family and friends. Her favorite activities include gardening, reading, hiking, rafting, cross country skiing, snowboarding, camping, knitting and watching movies.

Jason Koster
Jason Koster
    Jason Koster is originally from Hopewell Junction, New York. Jason obtained his Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from Quinnipiac College in Hamden, Connecticut where he graduated Cum Laude in January of 2002. While completing his degree he completed research on the effects of Myofascial release and Yoga on carpal tunnel syndrome.
    Before arriving in Mt. Shasta, Jason worked in a variety of settings including; rehab centers, an Indian health service hospital, and outpatient orthopedic clinics. Jason has rehabilitated patients with traumatic brain injuries, strokes, diabetes, cardiopulmonary diseases, and multiple orthopedic diagnoses/injuries, with special interest and education in knee and shoulder rehabilitation.
    Jason’s involvement in outdoor recreation includes backcountry skiing, backpacking, mountain biking, rock climbing, whitewater kayaking, etc. has given him insight in preventing, treating, and conditioning for such activities.

Cindy Holmes
Cindy Holmes
    Cindy Holmes grew up in Malibu, CA. She moved from the coast to the mountains where she attended college at Western State University in Gunnison, CO and received a BA in Kinesiolgy. Returning to the coast, she later graduated from Chapman University in Orange, CA with her Masters degree in Physical Therapy in 2000. Cindy’s primary work experience has been in the outpatient orthopedic setting, but she has also enjoyed working in acute hospital settings, skilled nursing facilities and outpatient neurological rehabilitation.
    Cindy’s interests in outdoor activities including hiking and skiing are one reason for her move to the Mt. Shasta area. She also shares her experience of Yoga and Pilates by incorporating these movement techniques into physical therapy treatments.


Susan Spence

    Susan graduated from Stanford University with a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy in 1983. She came to The Wellness Center from a position as director of rehabilitation at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford. Susan moved to the Mt. Shasta area to enjoy being in the country to hike, camp, and play with her son, horses, and dogs.
    In addition to general orthopedics and pediatric physical therapy, Susan specializes in using biofeedback to teach relaxation and decrease chronic muscle tension and pain. She has sixteen years experience successfully combining biofeedback with physical therapy in treating patients with chronic pain such as headaches, abdominal and musculoskeletal pain, as well as urinary and bowel incontinence. She also uses biofeedback in treating breathing disorders such as chronic asthma and chronic and nervous cough.



Other Professionals

Dr David Schanaker is a doctor of chiropractic. The focuses of his clinical practice and his classes are to reduce stress and pain, create an energetic balance, and recapture and maintain health and vitality.  David teaches Chi Gong classes that are an ancient Eastern healing art which literally means “working with energy”. Chi Gong uses sitting, standing and walking meditations, as well as movement sequences to cleanse the organs, recover vitality and develop a quiet mind.

Karen Henretty, Massage Practitioner- Karen previously worked at the Wellness Center as a physical therapy assistant for several years. She is now offering therapeutic massage with a variety of techniques. Karen often has the client actively participate by tightening a muscle during massage to create a gentle more lasting effect.

Certified Class Instructors

  • Jean Anderson - Yoga - has been a certified yoga instructor since 2000. Jean is also a certified Breema instructor and has extensive experience in the healing arts. Jean incorporates some of her Breema techniques into her yoga classes. These techniques help a person center and live in the moment, decreasing stress and anxiety.
  • Debbie Desrochers - Yoga - is a certified yoga instructor.  She has taught yoga in Davis, CA for several years and has personally practiced Hatha and Ashtanga yoga for many years.  Debbie is committed to bringing the benefits of yoga and gentle caring to people with all levels of fitness.
  • Cindy Holmes PT - Pilates - is a physical therapist here at the Wellness Center. She is a certified pilates instructor and has personally practiced yoga for several years. Cindy incorporates pilates, yoga and physical therapy into her classes.
  • Robert Jones - Cardio Circuit - ihas been a Certified Personal Trainer since 1996 and has been with Mount Shasta Physical Therapy since November 2000. Outside of personal training, his interests include rock climbing, mountain climbing, hiking, biking, Nordic skiing and ice hockey.

  • Julie Shephard - - is a certified aquatics instructor and teaches water aerobics through the Wellness Center and through COS (in our pool). She has a special interest in endurance training in deep water.
  • Angela Towner - Prime Time - is our Wellness Membership program director and teaches prime time and pool classes. She is has a bachelors degree in kinesiotherapy and is a certified personal trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine.
  • Becky Valdez - Step Aerobics - is a certified group fitness instructor and personal trainer.  She has taught a variety of classes including step, aerobics, circuit training, bosu and others for over 10 years.  She is also currently teaching in the athletic department at COS.  Becky teaches step aerobics here at the Wellness Center.  Her classes are full of fun, up-beat music and movement, movement, movement.  She is ecstatic and raring to go.
  • Linda Valenzuela - Pilates, Ball Corps, Boot Camp, Prime Time, Cardio Circuit- has a full-time position here at the Wellness Center. She is our all- round “utility player” teaching a wide variety of classes in the pool, gym and in the classroom. She is an ACE certified personal trainer. She is also a certified fitness instructor in Pilates and stability ball training. Linda’s loves are her daughter, any outdoor activity, and hard, sweaty cardio work. Linda also teaches boot camp and ball corps.

Outside Instructors

  • Peter Halt MD - Martial Arts- has been studying Japanese and Korean martial arts since 1980 and teaching for over 15 years, 4 in Mt Shasta. He teaches self-confidence, discipline, and self-defense through martial arts instruction. He is a local physician with extensive professional and personal experience in sports medicine, and enjoys teaching people of all ages, abilities and disabilities. His students range from 5 to 55 years of age.
  • Joan Lucas - Senior Line Dancing-was a professional dancer on Broadway, in motion pictures and television in another lifetime. She taught dance for 40 years and is currently a choreographer at COS. She is so excited to be offering seniors an opportunity to improve balance, strength, endurance and mental sharpness through line dancing.
